I’m Mahfoud Mohiydine, a natural spaces guide in the Atlas and Sahara Desert since 1998 and the creator of Auberge le Safran. I was born in Taliouine, a beautiful village in the heart of the Atlas Mountains, famous for producing the world’s best saffron. It lies about 2.5 hours from the Sahara Desert and 2.5 hours from the Atlantic coast (Agadir).

Although Berber (Tamazight) is my mother tongue, I also learned Arabic, French, and English at school. I’m passionate about saffron, native plants, geology, and Amazigh art and architecture—from prehistoric times to today.

I studied in Taliouine, Agadir, and Casablanca before completing advanced education in France. Still, I believe the most valuable lessons come from life itself—through observation, respect, sharing, and involvement in sustainable development.

I focus on building meaningful exchanges between travellers and locals. The people here live by an ancient philosophy of hospitality, openness, and harmony with nature. They also face the challenges of climate change.

My goal is to help travellers disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with nature, simplicity, and the rich culture of Morocco. There is so much to discover and share in this vast and beautiful country—our home.
